Marty Rathbun Melt-Down

Have you ever introspected briefly and wondered if you were actually quite evil? You notice you make a mean comment to your mom or your friend or think bad thoughts? Yeah I think we’ve all done it but there’s a difference between people who do that and people who just run rampantly wild and don’t even notice that they are evil.

I am definitely relieved that I sometimes have some self-loathing because it appears that means I’m not actually as evil as I may be. Not as evil as someone who belongs in an insane asylum like Marty Rathbun—a former Scientologist who betrayed his religion and his position in the Church and went criminal. Freedom magazine reported on the whole thing but here’s a piece of the article I was intrigued by:

It’s a well-known mental phenomenon, mostly seen in institutions for the criminally insane or maximum-security prisons. That is, unable to come to grips with the depths of evil one has engaged in, one instead has an “epiphany.” One “realizes” one day that “None of it was my fault! Those were the cards I was dealt and I was just a victim of fate!” At which point one has a euphoric resurgence, losing touch with all reality of one’s past, and reinvents oneself as what they wish they were. They blame their failures on somebody else (No Responsibility For Anything) and when they look in the mirror they see a “warm and fuzzy guy,” while the rest of the world sees someone in need of an exorcism.

The Church is at peace. Indeed, the only battles today are the rantings of Rathbun and his “Posse.” No longer able to create and then fight wars for the Church at Church expense, he now attacks the Church itself for no other reason than its refusal to let him continue to fight his psychotic war against what he imagines are the enemy—the entire world and anybody who doesn’t see it his way.

Mike Rinder, best known as the lurker in the background of John Sweeney’s Scientology meltdown, is not what you might describe as the model family-man.

In a Freedom Magazine expose the former Scientology staffer paints a picture of a brutal, hateful husband, father and son, a misogynist with a proclivity for violence against women.

Freedom claims Rinder abandoned his wife of 30 years and cut himself off from his son who was waging a”three-year fight against a life-threatening form of cancer.”

“Nice” was never his epithet, his brutalizing of his former wife, as shown by the photographs in the magazine, go far beyond the acceptable norm.

Courts all over the world recognize Scientology as a religion

May 2005 — Church granted full religious recognition in Kenya.

August 2005 — Church granted full religious recognition in Sri Lanka.

November 2005 — Bavarian State Administrative Court of Appeal ruled that the Church of Scientology Munich pursues idealistic purposes.

December 2005 — The Federal Supreme Administrative Court in Germany upheld a ruling of the Hamburg State Administrative Court of Appeal that actions taken by the Hamburg government to discriminate against a Scientologist interfered with her right to religious freedom protected by the German Constitution.

May 2006 — Kazakhstan Ministry of Justice registered the Church of Scientology Mission as a religious association.

June 2006 — Church of Scientology in Auckland, New Zealand, was granted tax exemption.

August 2006 — The Church was granted full religious recognition in Nicaragua.

November 2006 — The Value Added Tax Office in the Netherlands granted tax exemption to the Church of Scientology of Amsterdam.

April 2007 — The European Court of Human Rights, the highest court in the European Union, recognized the right of the Church of Scientology of Moscow to be registered as a religious organization under the Russian Religion Law. This decision was reaffirmed by the Court in September 2007.

September 2007 — Church of Scientology of Portugal officially recognized as a religious organization under that nation’s new religious registration law.

September 2007 — The European Court of Human Rights upheld their April 2007 decision, fully recognizing Scientology as a religion.

October 2007 — The National Court in Madrid issued a landmark decision affirming the right to religious freedom by recognizing that the National Church of Scientology of Spain should be entered in the Registry of Religious Entities. The Ministry of Justice complied with the court’s order on December 13, 2007.

December 2007 — South African Revenue Service granted the Church of Scientology the status of a Public Benefit Organization as a religious entity with full tax exemption.

December 2007 — United Kingdom Customs and Excise Office agreed to refund 20 years of improperly collected Value Added Taxes with interest. This refund totaled more than $32 million.

December 2008 — Church of Scientology of Argentina received full religious recognition.

February 2009 — Berlin Administrative Court ordered the immediate removal of anti-Scientology propaganda placed by the Berlin City Administration in front of the Church of Scientology of Berlin. The Court found that the City’s actions violated the Church’s right to religious freedom under Article 4 of the Constitution. The City appealed and the Court of Appeal affirmed the decision in July 2009, establishing a landmark ruling protecting the religious freedom rights of the Church of Scientology throughout Germany.

The Church of Scientology International is directing its churches and missions in 165 countries to join forces with the United Nations on June 26th in raising awareness on drug abuse. The International Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking is based on U.N. General Assembly resolution 42/112 passed in 1987 to strengthen action and cooperation in eliminating drug abuse.

Scientology officials are asking members, neighbors, youth groups, officials and community organizations to first educate themselves about drugs and then pass it on. Through its community anti-drug outreach program, the Church developed pocket-sized youth friendly educational booklets on commonly abused drugs, which have been published by Foundation for a Drug-Free World since 2006. With the help of Church volunteers and community alliances, millions of the booklets have been distributed since 1995.

“Ask any drug addict and he will tell you he never planned to become addicted and if had he really understood the consequences of drug abuse, he would never have tried drugs in the first place,” said Rev. Bob Adams Vice President of the Church of Scientology International.

Community action against drug abuse is also positive gain for civic leaders struggling with dwindling budgets for drug prevention programs. Once common drug prevention services from the DEA, FBI and even law enforcement programs like DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) are being shaved and in many areas cut entirely.

Staggering figures of disease and death from drug use have been around for years, but the specific harm to individuals, families and society in terms of crime, health costs and productivity losses are harder to find. According to the the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime, teens and young adults are particularly at risk, with drug use more than twice as high as that among the general population. The UNODC says that peer pressure to experiment and the fact that people taking drugs tend to be either misinformed or insufficiently aware of the health risks involved.

“Our community drug-education program has been in very heavy demand since its inception,” said Rev. Adams. “Widespread drug education is the most effective weapon in the war on drugs and doing it is saving lives.”

A New Jersey teen pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to a computer hacking charge for his role in distributed denial-of-service attack that last year shuttered Church of Scientology websites.

Dmitriy Guzner, part of the online troublemaking group “Anonymous,” was charged with a felony count of unauthorized impairment of a protected computer for the January, 2008 distributed denial-of-service attack. The 19-year-old New Jersey teen faces 12 to 18 months under sentencing guidelines for what is the first prosecution of an Anonymous member.

The group is best described as a loose collection of griefers who hang out in the net’s most juvenile corners looking for some outlet for their boredom. Past targets include uncool virtual worlds, an epilepsy message board and a Neo-Nazi webcaster.

Anonymous members formally declared war on the Church of Scientology in January 2008 after the secretive religious group tried to suppress a creepy Tom Cruise video produced for Scientology members.

Guzner is scheduled for sentencing August 24.

Freezones are not religious in nature, they are money making ventures, originally started by Captain Bill Robertson.

They claim they cannot trust the current Church management structure (which was set up by L. Ron Hubbard) because it is not what Hubbard would want. They have had many criminals in their midsts. Such as Robertson, Robin Scott and David Mayo. Many of them are declared Supressive Persons by the Church and freely admit so.
